Answer:

8. What
is the difference between wool and synthetic
rugs?
Answer:
Synthetic fibers are used exclusively in machine made rugs, One of the greatest advantages of synthetic rugs is a byproduct of the fiber being non-porous. This means that it is inherently stain proof and resists soiling and staining from almost any chemical. Synthetic fiber rugs are also more affordable than a wool rug. Wool fiber is available in both machine and hand made rugs. Wool is the traditional fiber used in fine hand made Oriental rugs. Wool not only wears longer, it also keeps its good appearance and stays new-looking longer. Each wool fiber is made up of millions of "coiled springs" that stretch and give rather than break, and so wool is extremely durable. Wool rugs absorb dyes differently than synthetic rugs giving them a more authentic look.
9. What
is a tufted Rug?
Answer:
hand tufted area rugs resemble more expensive hand knotted rugs in intricacy of design, detail and coloring. A hand tufted rug is constructed by pushing yarns through a heavy canvas backing, then shearing the face of the rug to create a cut pile. These rugs are very heavy and extremely dense in weave.
10. What
is a hooked rug?
Answer:
Hooked rugs are made with wool and are woven using a hand hook, similar in shape to a crochet hook, to form a looped pile. Our hooked rugs are made on a non skid latex backing.
11. How
long will my rug last?
Answer:
There are many factors that can affect the longevity of an area rug. They include fiber type, weave and density. Our hand made rugs can last from 60 to as much as 100 years. Tufted and most woolen machine made rugs will last from 20 to 30 years depending on quality. Synthetic fiber rugs will generally not perform as well as woolen rugs over many years of use, they should be replaced every 10 to 20 years depending on the quality of the rug.
12. What's
the right size rug for my room?
Answer:
In dining rooms it is important that the chairs, when pulled out from the table, remain on the rug. This generally requires an 8'x10' rug or larger. There are no precise guidelines for other rooms. The best way to determine the right size is to spread out sheets of newspaper approximating a size that you like, take the measurements, and choose the closest size available.
13. Does
the size include the fringe?
Answer:
On handmade orientals the size does not include the fringe but, usually, on machine made rugs the measurements do include the fringe.
14. Will
the rug fade over time?
Answer:
Most rugs will not fade under normal light conditions. In extreme situations with high sun exposure, you can expect some fading to occur. Vegetable dyed rugs will fade more quickly than the more common chemical dyes.
15. Are
the rug sizes you list exact measurements?
Answer:
All rug sizes listed are approximate.
16. How
do I maintain my rug?
Answer:
Fortunately, rugs are very easy to maintain. Regular vacuuming and a routine professional cleaning every three to five years will keep your rug in good condition. For any rugs with a long pile such as shag rugs, do not use the beater bar attachment with your vacuum cleaner, this could tear out the pile of the rug.
17. How
do I spot clean my rug?
Answer:
Certain stains such as coffee, colas, juices, animal, medicines, milk, foods and certain dyes must be spotted immediately for best results.
First remove any solid materials from the area and then immediately blot the area with a clean Turkish towel. To neutralize the spot, blot with club soda or a mix of half-white vinegar and cold water. Repeat this if necessary and blot again to remove most of the moisture. A moderate amount of rug cleaning detergent is also recommended. Do not rub the spot. Some Oriental Rug dyes can bleed upon contact with liquids. Before the area dries you should comb the pile so that it blends with the rest of the rug. If the stain is caused by a non-emergency situation such as tar or dirt, a cleaning fluid similar to Afta is a great and easy-to-use product for eliminating hard to remove stains. For removing most dirt stains, a rug detergent similar to Stain-X seems to get the job done. A Turkish towel or toothbrush can be used to blot the area. Again, do not rub the spot. After blotting, follow the directions we mentioned above.
If you cannot seem to remove a stain, or if you notice that the area you have spot cleaned appears cleaner than the rest of your rug, it may be time to consult a reputable Oriental Rug cleaning specialist.

Answer:
Under-padding has many benefits for your rug. It holds the rug securely in place to prevent slipping, adding cushioning and luxury, and allowing for easier vacuuming.
Under-padding also prevents pile crush, protects rugs from the effects of sharp objects like heels, and generally extends the life of your rugs. Its use is highly recommended.
30. How
accurately do the pictures on the screen reflect
the actual colors of the rug?
Answer:
The color seen on your monitor is usually about 95% accurate and a good representation of the true color of the rug. This can also be affected greatly by the quality of your particular monitor and its color calibration. We make every effort, including state-of-the-art photography to present a photo that accurately represents the real colors of each rug.
On some rug description pages we only list
the predominant colors of each rug. Some rugs
may contain three or more colors. If you would
like to know the exact colors of a particular
rug, call us at 800 495-0488 if this will
help you make your decision, especially if
the color is critical to match existing items
in the room it will be used.
31. When
I opened my rug, there were slight folds and
creases, is this normal?
Answer:
Yes, it is completely normal. In order to protect your rug from damage during shipping, it is sometimes folded and rolled into the smallest possible package.

38. What if I'm not sure about the color or style, based on the photo?

If you are not sure if the color of the rug or style will match your existing items in the room it will be used, we have a suggestion. We do allow you

materials and style, and if it is just what you want you can then order the larger size you need.
